Senior Literary Agent – President

Paula Henley earned her master’s in English from Columbia University. She established The Acorn Publishing Agency in 2005 after working in the entertainment industry.

In the years since that time, she has built a dynamic, bestselling client list, placing nearly seven hundred titles in a broad range of categories, including women’s fiction, romance, inspirational, memoir and nonfiction narrative, business, personal finance, popular culture, self-help, religion, parenting, and health.

A publishing veteran, Paula has superb industry knowledge and extensive associates in the publishing field. She is a member of the Association of Authors Representatives and RWA.

Ms. Henley is currently seeking submissions for contemporary and historical romance, romantic suspense, women’s fiction, young adult, business, motivational, diet and health, memoir, parenting, pop culture, and true crime.

Becky joined The Acorn Agency in April 2013. With a degree in Women & Gender Studies and English. She has worked for several renowned publishing agencies before deciding to join the Acorn family as Submissions Coordinator. Mrs. Halverson belongs to the Association of Authors’ Representatives (AAR) and Romance Writers of America (RWA).Becky is currently accepting submissions from a wide variety of genres, including mystery, women’s fiction, romance, historical romance, middle grade and young adult.

Having spent significant time in the south and New York City, she particularly likes books set in these regions. She also enjoys books that feature animals, boarding schools, families, parenting, southern history, African-American interest, business, motivation, romance, young adult, children’s, middle grade, and Christian living, to name just a few. Jerry Bently joined Paula as business manager and Vice President of Operations in 2005.

Jerry earned his master’s in business and has worked in the entertainment, editorial, marketing, and advertising industries before joining the Acorn family. Adding to his wide range of experience is his keen understanding of the foreign rights market.

Jerry’s love of books and work as a freelance writer has enabled him to diligently assist hundreds of authors by helping to bring their vision to light.

His unique views and experience has positively aided in the success of many of our clients’ careers.

Jerry has worked with an extensive range of titles pertaining to business, historical fiction, science fiction, mystery, children’s fiction, teen fiction, sports, true crime, and motivational.

Patricia Woodard

Associate Agent – U.K. Liaison

Patricia came to the Acorn Agency in 2014 with nine years of experience as both an independent editor and a freelance editor. Though her Bachelor’s focused on graphic design, her passion for books made a career in publishing inevitable. Patricia provides content and layout support for the agency newsletter, designs both advertorials and book covers, aids in the management of the agency’s social media venues, and processes digital titles through a number of platforms.

Additionally, Ms. Woodard is our UK liaison and ensures each branch is actively communicating information and ideas. Raised on a steady supply of books including everything from Little House on the Prairie to Twilight, Patricia has since moved on, expanding her reading interest to multiple genres: romance, women’s fiction, literary/commercial fiction, suspense, young adult, African American interests, and historical fiction. With such a wide range of literary loves, she voraciously continues to add to her ‘to be read pile’. Ms. Woodard has co-agented the release of numerous books. She’s currently seeking submissions for romantic suspense, young adult, parenting, pop culture, middle grade fiction, mystery, and science fiction.

Jeanene is a graduate of Clarion University, where she majored in English with a writing concentration. Jeanene began her career as a freelance editor and editor with multiple agencies. Looking to work with a variety of authors and genres, she joined The Acorn family in 2008. With over two decades experience in the publishing industry, she has brought to light hundreds of authors’ works. Her knowledge and experience in the literary agent and publishing industries make her an invaluable asset to the Acorn team.

Jeanene likes to keep a dedicated client list, as it is most important to her to be able to work closely with her authors through every step of the publishing process, from a manuscript’s inception all the way through publication, promotion, and beyond.

She is a member of RWA and AAR. Jeanene is currently seeking projects in the following areas: Young Adult Fiction, Romance (contemporary, category, historical, inspirational), Women’s Fiction, Middle Grade, and Mystery.

Steve Morgan

Literary Agent – Public Relations Liaison

As our PR person, Steve uses all forms of media and communication to build, maintain, and manage our clients’ careers and reputation. Steve joined The Acorn Agency in January, 2007, opening our Los Angeles branch.

He works with a number of talented writers, assisting them in taking the correct steps to advance in the writing field. In addition, Steve spends time developing the agency’s Hollywood film and multi-media contacts.

He comes from a diverse publishing and finance background, having worked in the editorial department of multiple agencies, as a financial advisor, in the marketing and communications departments of several major New York investment firms, and as a freelance writer. His experiences in sales, marketing, and writing provide insights into numerous aspects of the publishing industry.

Steve continues to actively cultivate his client list, and is currently seeking works in the following genres: science fiction, fiction, fantasy, romantic suspense, contemporary, paranormal, historical fiction, young adult and middle grade fiction.
